Two Mountain Spirits · Rock Rhinoceros

Forms rise from the mountain; spirits emerge from imagination. Two Mountain Spirits · Rock Rhinoceros uses colored brass. A compact rhinoceros stands at the lower right. A short nose horn and fine rock-like grain create the focus, balanced by pale mist at the upper left. The shared original softly rounded shield-oval outline, broad rounded crown and gently rounded lower point, thin warm-brass rim gathers the composition. Deep-brown colored brass with warm-brass relief and restrained silver-white accents is shaped by fine lines and shallow relief. A rock-grain fragment at the lower left and a short horn curve at the upper right simplify the reverse. Black wrapping, ivory diamond windows and coordinated fittings connect the two faces. Each has its own balance of detail and open space, while sharing the material, palette and decorative language of Two Mountain Spirits.
