Rocks lie or rise; open space gives each a different setting. Two Scholars Rocks · Reclining Rock uses natural brass. A broad low garden rock spans the lower field, its shallow hollows meeting fine grain. Two leaves at the upper left accent its horizontal weight. The shared slightly tall rounded rectangular outline, softly rounded corners, single fine inner border, thin smooth rim gathers the composition. Warm natural brass throughout is shaped by fine lines and shallow relief. Two rock lines at the upper right and a fine grass sprig at the lower left remain. Black wrapping, ivory diamond windows and coordinated fittings connect the two faces. Each has its own balance of detail and open space, while sharing the material, palette and decorative language of Two Scholars Rocks.
