Mountains and seas take form; wondrous creatures enter the guard. Beasts of Mountains and Seas · Xuangui Facing the Sea uses an upright oval outline and black-brown colored brass. Warm-brass lines and small silver-white and muted red details continue the collection’s shared material direction. Xuangui rests among water lines at lower left, its bird-like head raised toward upper right. A long serpentine tail curls along the left rim, while a single sea-cloud line at upper right balances the patterned shell. Shallow relief surrounds a single central aperture, with the whole composition enclosed by a plain thin rim. The reverse retains one sea-cloud line at upper right and one short scute pattern at lower left. Black wrapping, ivory diamond windows and plain warm-brass fittings echo one another.
