Sacred Deer · Gazing at the Moon

A deer enters the grove, with lingzhi close by. Sacred Deer · Gazing at the Moon uses tea-brown colored brass, fine warm-brass lines and restrained shallow relief, with woodland motifs enclosed by a thin round rim. A deer stands along the right rim and raises its head toward a slim crescent at upper left. Its four legs rest quietly on a short slope, with a lingzhi at lower left and sparse grass strokes beneath the open night scene. A plain central field and single tapered aperture give the deer, antlers and lingzhi room to unfold. The reverse retains one slim crescent at upper left and sparse grass at lower right. Black wrapping, ivory diamond windows and plain warm-brass fittings continue the collection’s shared material and ornament.
